If you do not understand the difference, it could be deadly. Commercial vehicles are essential for transporting goods across the country. Trucks are one of the most efficient and cost-effective means of sending large loads from state to state. However, this requires that we share the roads with these very large vehicles. Sadly, sharing the road with a commercial vehicle can be dangerous. According to the NHTSA, the majority of fatalities and injuries in large truck accidents occur to occupants of other vehicles. During 2015, fatalities in large truck accidents increased by four percent from 2014. Of the 4,067 fatalities in truck accidents, 74 percent of those deaths were occupants of other vehicles. Injuries increased in 2014 by 11 percent with 73 percent of the 116,000 injuries being sustained by occupants of other vehicles. Because we must share the interstates and streets with commercial trucks, it is important to understand the differences to avoid a truck accident. Large trucks cause thousands of serious accidents each year in the United States. The NHTSA reports that 116,000 people were injured in large truck accidents during 2015 and 4,067 people were killed that year in truck accidents, an increase of four percent in both categories. Tragically, the occupants of other vehicles sustained the majority of the injuries and deaths. Even though more attention has been given to the dangers of crashes with commercial vehicles, the number of trucks involved in accidents did not decrease during 2015. While thousands of trucks travel our roads each day without incident, it only takes a second for an accident to occur. A commercial vehicle accident can turn your life upside down in a matter of seconds. Permanent disabilities can result in life-altering changes for you and your family. If you are injured in a large truck accident, don’t wait to seek legal advice. The steps you take after a truck accident can impact your ability to settle your case for full compensation. If you own a motor vehicle, it is important that you perform regular maintenance on your vehicle to maintain safety, performance, and value. Failing to perform regular maintenance on your vehicle puts you and others on the road at an increased risk for a motor vehicle accident. Truck drivers and trucking companies also have the same duty to perform regular truck maintenance on their vehicles. Poor truck maintenance can result in horrific commercial truck accidents that kill and injure innocent victims. Because of the size and weight of commercial trucks, maintenance is important. Crashes involving large vehicles pose a tremendous threat to the drivers and passengers of other vehicles. Therefore, federal rules, regulations, and laws enforce strict compliance with maintenance and inspection schedules and standards. Rules and regulations can be found on the website for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Even with stiff penalties in place, some drivers and companies choose to ignore inspection and maintenance schedules.
