Bakersfield, CA – Christopher Durr Killed in Collision on Copus Rd
Bakersfield, CA (February 10, 2021) – One man was killed during a collision between his vehicle and a Peterbilt truck carrying two dump trailers both hauling dry asphalt on Tuesday, February 9th.
Police reports show that the accident took place at about 2:05 p.m. on Copus Road in the area of Highway 99 when a Kia Rio driving westbound on Copus Road veered into the eastbound lane and collided with an oncoming tractor-trailer.
The force of the impact caused the trailers to roll and scatter dry asphalt on the roadway as well as extensively damaging both vehicles.
Upon their arrival, police discovered that the driver of the Kia, who has since been identified as 21-year-old Christopher Lewis Durr, a resident of Lancaster, had sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 56-year-old male, suffered injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. He was transported via ambulance to Kern Medical for emergency treatment.
Both lanes of travel on Copus Road were closed from Interstate 5 to Highway 99 for around seven hours for investigation and roadway cleanup.
