Fresno, CA – Collision Takes Lives of 8-Year-Old Boy and Father at Marks & North Avenues
Fresno, CA (May 2, 2021) – Authorities say 7-year-old Jose Castillo Jr and his father, 45-year-old Jose Castillo, were killed after a driver ran a stop sign at an intersection in Fresno. It happened just before 8:00 p.m. on the evening of May 1.
The driver who struck the pair was identified as Jovan Adam Cortez, 22. He has been booked into jail for driving under the influence as well as vehicular manslaughter. Cortez had his 10-month-old daughter with him at the time of the collision. However, she did not suffer any injuries.
The son and father who lost their lives were in an SUV with the young boy’s twin brother, his mother, and two girls, aged 11 and 4. The 11-year-old girl suffered major injuries in the accident. Her current health condition has not been reported at this time.
Cortez was also transported to the hospital for the treatment of injuries he sustained in the wreck. He is now in jail with a bond of over $400,000.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
