Modesto, CA – Hit & run Crash Takes Life of 18-Month-Old on Glenn Ave near Ustick Rd
Modesto, CA (May 23, 2021) – On the afternoon of Friday, May 21, a fatal crash took the life of an 18-month-old in Modesto. At approximately 5:00 p.m., responders were sent to assist those involved at the scene.
The wreck happened at the intersection of Glenn Avenue near Ustick Road for reasons still being investigated by police. An 18-month-old boy walked out into the road when a 20-year-old, identified as Santiago Martinez, struck the child with the front end of his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
A bystander chased Martinez down and he returned to the crash site. Police arrested him and booked him into the Stanislaus county public safety center. He is being charged with a felony hit-and-run.
The baby boy was rushed to a nearby medical center where he passed away shortly after arriving. Drugs and alcohol were not thought to have played a part in the accident.
Police continue to investigate the details of the collision.
