Bakersfield, CA – Fatal Head-On Crash Takes 1 Life on Hwy 178 near Kern River
Bakersfield, CA (October 13, 2021) – A man lost his life in a fatal head-on collision that occurred on a highway at the top of the Kern River in Bakersfield. The wreck was reported on the evening of Tuesday, October 12 at around 5:15 p.m.
Information from the California Highway Patrol stated that the incident occurred in the westbound lanes of Highway 178 when the man was involved in a head-on crash with a Ford Explorer. The cause of the incident remains under investigation by CHP.
The man was pronounced deceased by medical personnel who responded to the scene. His identity has not been released at this time.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, identified as a 68-year-old woman from Wofford Heights, sustained moderate injuries in the collision. Traffic was backed up in the area for some time while responders worked to secure the scene.
