Bakersfield, CA – One dead after crashing into semi truck n Hwy 46 near Wasco
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 07, 2022) – A vehicle collided head-on with a semi-truck on Highway 46 just east of Wasco Wednesday morning, causing the closure of Highway 46 east of Root Avenue.
Around 6:15 a.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a semi-truck and vehicle accident near Highway 46 and Root Avenue, according to the CHP
According to CHP, a Lexus was traveling eastbound at high speeds when it tried to pass in the westbound lane and collided head-on with a semi-truck carrying hay. The semi-truck then struck two other vehicles, spilling hay into the roadway.
CHP reports that the Lexus caught fire after being hit and the driver died at the scene. The cause of the death is unknown at this time, but it may have been a result of the fire in the vehicle.
According to the California Highway Patrol, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in this accident. Nobody else was injured in the crash.
CHP reports that westbound and eastbound lanes on Highway 46 are closed east of Root Avenue. During the investigation, both directions of Highway 46 are expected to be closed for several hours.
