TEMECULA, CA (February 08, 2022) – The nurse, who has been fighting COVID-19 from day one, was killed in a freak accident involving a stolen SUV in Southern California recently.
Kathleen Hydrusko was identified by Riverside County Coroner’s Office as the nurse who was killed on Feb. 4 while returning to her Temecula home. The fatal accident occurred just before 8 p.m. on Cactus Valley Road, according to the coroner’s report.
Grace Hydrusko spoke to the news and said her daughter was “always happy, always smiling.” “She was a joy to be around. She embraced helping others. It was her passion.” Hydrusko began working at Hemet Global Medical Center two weeks before the pandemic.
Hydrusko was killed when the stolen Ford Explorer, towing a black pick-up truck, detached from its tow vehicle. It had been placed on a two-wheel trailer, with its back wheels touching the pavement. As the Explorer rolled into Hydrusko’s path, her vehicle hit the Explorer.
The driver of the pick-up truck did not stop and left the scene. In less than 30 minutes following the head-on collision, Hydrusko was pronounced dead at the scene.
A make and model of the truck have yet to be determined by investigators.
