Tulare County, CA – Car crashes into train, killing 1, injuring 1
TULARE COUNTY, CA – Early Saturday morning, a vehicle collided with a stationary train, killing one person and injuring another. CHP officers in the Visalia area report receiving 9-1-1 calls just after 2 a.m. about an accident just outside Dinuba.
A 2007 Toyota Camry drove directly into the train while it was stopped on the railroad tracks across the roadway on Avenue 424, just west of Road 72. It is a controlled railroad crossing with crossing arms and a roadway that leads up to the tracks, but the tracks aren’t used regularly. Authorities identified the driver as Raymond Garza, 29, who died at the scene. A 26-year-old female passenger was transported to an area hospital for minor-to-moderate injuries.
Alcohol is suspected to have played a role in this collision, according to investigators. Additionally, they want to confirm that the crossing arms worked properly at the time.
