Goleta, CA – Pedestrian killed in Goleta by semi-truck, lanes closed through afternoon
GOLETA, CA – Santa Barbara County Fire Department officials report that one person was killed after being hit by a semi-truck traveling southbound on Highway 101 in Goleta early Thursday morning.
It happened shortly after 3 a.m. just north of Turnpike Road on southbound Highway 101.
According to the CHP, the semi-truck pulled a trailer and approached Turnpike Road at an undetermined speed when the pedestrian walked from the right shoulder of the southbound lanes towards the center divider.
A big rig hit the man in the middle lane, and the driver stopped and called 911.
The pedestrian died at the scene after suffering major injuries. There was no injury to the driver of the big rig and he was not suspected of driving under the influence.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
