Torem & Associates

INYO COUNTY, CA – A 55-year-old Stockton, California, truck driver had parked his semi-truck along US-395’s southbound shoulder close to Lee’s Frontier Gas Station on October 14, 2022, at around 7:14 PM.

The truck driver got out and started walking east across US-395 toward a food truck that was parked in a dirt lot across from the freeway. A 72-year-old man from Cambria, California was speeding north on US-395 in a BMW X5 as the truck driver crossed the northbound lanes.

The person who was crossing the highway was not seen by the BMW’s driver. The vehicle was unable to avoid the pedestrian due to his high speed. The pedestrian was struck by the BMW when it was in the second lane going north. The person collapsed on the US-395 shoulder in the northbound direction. The BMW was severely damaged and came to rest just to the north of the collision.

Caltrans, the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, the Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department, and the CHP all sent personnel to the incident site. The pedestrian died at the site after succumbing to his injuries. The BMW’s driver did not sustain any wounds.

The Inyo County Coroner’s Office will reveal the pedestrian’s identify once the next of kin has been informed. All drivers are urged by CHP to obey established speed limits and to be vigilant for pedestrians, particularly when passing through towns along Highway 395.
