Porterville, CA – Several people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Porterville, according to the CHP
PORTERVILLE, CA – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a two-vehicle collision on Highway 65 near Porterville on Wednesday resulted in multiple injuries. A call was made on Wednesday at 1:22 p.m. reporting a collision on Avenue 56 and Highway 65 that required medical attention.
The CHP reported that a 46-year-old Porterville resident was traveling south on Highway 65 in a 2011 Dodge Nitro with three young children while accelerating to a red light at Avenue 56 at 55 mph. Meanwhile, according to police, a 39-year-old Earlimart man was allegedly traveling westbound on Avenue 56 with one passenger in a 2018 Toyota Camry as he approached a green light at State Route 65 at an unknown speed.
According to CHP officers, the Dodge’s driver failed to stop at the red light and entered the intersection right into the path of the Toyota. This caused a collision in which the front of the Dodge struck the Toyota’s driver’s side.
The Toyota’s driver was airlifted to Kern Medical Center with serious injuries, and the Toyota’s passenger was taken to Sierra View Medical Center with moderate injuries. According to the CHP’s official report, the driver of the Dodge suffered minor injuries, while a passenger in the Dodge suffered serious injuries and was taken to Sierra View Medical Center. The Dodge’s other two occupants did not sustain any injuries.
Alcohol and narcotics don’t seem to have been a part in this event, according to CHP officers.
