Visalia, CA – CHP: Kids hospitalized after DUI crash
VISALIA, CA – According to the California Highway Patrol, drivers and their young passengers suffered moderate to serious injuries in a four-car crash on Friday night in Visalia.
Around 11:00 p.m., according to the CHP, they responded to a multi-vehicle collision on State Route 198 and State Route 65.
Investigation revealed that 40-year-old Exeter woman driving her Infiniti QX60 southbound on State Route 65 reached the junction as 32-year-old Ruben N. Martinez Jr. from Visalia, driving a Chevrolet Silverado, was heading west on State Route 198 approaching State Route 65. A 29-year-old Porterville man and a 30-year-old Woodlake woman were waiting in their respective vehicles in the left turn lane of State Route 198 westbound at State Route 65.
The Chevrolet allegedly struck the Infiniti’s left side after entering the intersection with its back to a red light. The Infiniti was thrown southwesterly to its immediate right across the center median by this incident, slamming into the Nissan and Mazda.
According to CHP, Martinez Jr. and the Infiniti’s driver both sustained serious injuries as a result. In addition, the driver of the Infiniti had five young passengers, ages 6 to 13, who were hurt moderately to severely. The two other vehicles’ drivers were unharmed.
Martinez Jr. will be arrested after being discharged from the hospital because the California Highway Patrol believies he was operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The Investigation is still underway.
