Fresno, CA – Police: 16-year-old dies in rollover crash
FRESNO, CA – Authorities say a juvenile who was ejected from a car in a suspected DUI incident died early on Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle collision on Elkhorn Avenue, west of Jameson Avenue, was reported to them just before 5:30 a.m.Four passengers were inside a silver Toyota Tacoma that was going west on Elkhorn Avenue when it failed to round a corner, according to police. Speed may have played a role in the accident.
They claim that the Tacoma rolled multiple times when it ran off the road, which is how the unrestrained 16-year-old was launched from the car. According to investigators, the Tacoma and the teenager both came to rest on Elkhorn Avenue’s dirt shoulder.
After receiving life-saving aid, the emergency personnel reported that they were unable to revive the young person. At the scene, the teen was declared dead.
The other three passengers allegedly suffered minor injuries but declined medical attention.
According to police, the 26-year-old Tacoma driver was detained and placed into the Fresno County Prison on suspicion of felony DUI and manslaughter.
The teenager’s name hasn’t been made public yet because their family hasn’t been informed.
