Bakersfield, CA (July 13, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol reported that a man died during a multi-vehicle collision on Monday, July 12th.

Officers were dispatched to the scene in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 in the area of Rosedale Highway at about 4:10 p.m.

Reports show that three drivers were traveling southbound along Highway 99 in the construction by-pass lane and were slowing down as they approached stopped traffic when a fourth vehicle approached at an undetermined speed without slowing.

The driver of the fourth vehicle collided with the rear-end of the vehicle in front of him. The force of the impact started a chain reaction crash causing the other three drivers to rear-ended one another.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this accident.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Car accidents plague roadways across California every single day. In fact, these accidents often cause major disruptions and traffic, making safe travel a struggle for hundreds of thousands of Californians. Each year, more than 150,000 people are injured in automobile accidents throughout the state of California.

While the majority of auto accidents result in minor injuries to those involved, tens of thousands of people require hospitalization and emergency medical treatment for their injuries. Depending on the type of collision, the chances of serious and life-threatening injuries can be higher.
