Bakersfield, CA – Teenager Dies in Vehicle Rollover on Hwy 178 near Beale Ave Exit
Bakersfield, CA (July 13, 2021) – A 17-year-old boy died in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 178 in Bakersfield on Sunday, July 13th.
The Kern County Coroner said the teenager was a passenger in a vehicle that flipped in the westbound lanes of Highway 178 near the Beale Avenue exit. The teen was seriously injured in the crash and was transported by paramedics to Kern Medical, where he was pronounced dead.
Police reports show that a Hyundai was exiting Highway 178 via the Beale Avenue off-ramp at about 9:45 p.m. when the driver swerved trying to avoid an object in the roadway, causing them to lose control of their vehicle.
The Hyundai spun out of control, hit a raised asphalt curb, and flipped over onto its roof on the off-ramp. The teenager was thrown from the vehicle during the impact.
The 22-year-old driver sustained non-critical injuries and refused on-site medical treatment.
