Fresno, CA – Following a Crash, a Driver Carjacked a Vehicle with Children in it
FRESNO, Calif (December 21, 2021) – A CHP officer says a person was seen driving erratically, running multiple stop signs, and crashing into multiple vehicles at an intersection in Fresno – before carjacking another car in an attempt to escape.
They began following the suspect vehicle in the area of Clark Street and Clinton Avenue in Fresno on Tuesday around 12:00 noon. The suspect vehicle then crashed into vehicles at McKinley and Blackstone avenues, rendering it inoperable.
According to the CHP, the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Arturo Jose Sanchez, then stole another vehicle and forced the driver to leave the scene, suggesting he had a weapon. Additionally, two children were in the back of that vehicle. Officers were able to stop the vehicle and arrest Sanchez.
Two passengers were in the suspect vehicle when it crashed at McKinley and Blackstone avenues, but both fled the scene and have not been located.
Only Sanchez was injured in the incident.
