Gilroy, CA – Fatal crash with semi-truck leads to fuel spill on roadway
GILROY, CA – According to authorities, a driver was killed in a collision with a semi-truck that also spilled fuel on the roadway.
At 8:30 p.m Gilroy police responded to a crash a short distance from Monterey Road and Travel Park Circle. When a passenger car collided with a semi-truck, the driver of the passenger vehicle was killed.
As a result of the crash, the semi-truck’s fuel tank ruptured, causing diesel fuel to flood the roadway. The road was closed until 4:30 in the morning in order to investigate, remove the cars, and clean up the spill.
The Santa Clara County Coroner will release the driver’s identity after notifying the driver’s next of kin, police said. The cause of the crash is being investigated, as well as whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
