Selma CA – One person has died after he was struck by a vehicle

Torem & Associates

SELMA, CA – The California Highway Patrol says it is investigating a crash that left one man dead and another in jail.

About 10:30 p.m. on Friday, the CHP received calls reporting an accident involving a vehicle and a person near Rose and Highland Avenues in Selma.  Epigmeneo Cortez-Pedro was driving east on Rose Avenue when his car drifted into the westbound lane, striking a pedestrian. The pedestrian died as a result of his injuries.

A Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy found a fluid trail that led them to the car after it continued driving away from the scene.  The suspect was found at his home not far from the crash site.  Using the license plate left at the scene, CHP officers determined he was the driver of the vehicle because he was drunk at the time of the accident.

He was arrested and booked into the Fresno County jail on charges of felony driving under the influence, felony gross vehicular manslaughter, and felony hit-and-run causing great bodily injury.
