Fresno, CA – A crash involving 7 vehicles resulted in one person being injured; utility poles were downed
FRESNO, CA – According to the California Highway Patrol, a sweeper truck driver fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed into another vehicle.
Seven cars were involved in the crash, which resulted in downed utility poles. According to officials, a sweeper truck rear-ended a van at a red light on Clovis Avenue near Highway 99, continuing inside a utility pole and downing some power lines. Officers on the scene said the sweeper truck driver lost consciousness and fell asleep behind the wheel, causing the crash. An additional driver who witnessed the accident tried to drive around the scene, but ended up driving into the downed wires and pulling down a second utility pole.
As a result, additional wires fell on four other vehicles, making a total of seven vehicles involved in the incident. There was a report of an injury to the driver of the van. At this time, there have been no reports of other injuries.
There is an ongoing investigation into this matter.
