San Diego, CA – 19-year-old pedestrian killed by semi on I-15
SAN DIEGO, CA – A semi-truck struck and killed a 19-year-old pedestrian on Interstate 15 northbound Sunday, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP Public Information Officer Salvador Castro said the man walked into the traffic lanes for unknown reasons on the right shoulder of I-15 south of Carroll Canyon Road shortly after 5:30 a.m. The man was struck by a driver in a white Freightliner big rig shortly afterward. The man suffered severe injuries as a result. He died at the scene, Castro said.
During the investigation, the right lane of northbound I-15 was closed for two-and-a-half hours. As a result, the driver of the Freightliner stayed on the scene to speak with investigators. Castro withheld the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin. Additionally, a toxicology report will be conducted to see if drugs or alcohol were involved.
