FRESNO, CA – After a two-car collision on Freeway 180 involving a police car from the Fresno Police Department, four persons were sent to the hospital on Saturday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, it sent police to the crash site near State Route 180, east of Abby Street, around 8:20 p.m. They claim that when they arrived, an out-of-control Toyota Camry had collided with the patrol car, which was carrying two Fresno police officers, in the westbound lanes of the interstate.
Alexis Flores Valdeolivar, 25, of Fresno, the driver of the Camry, had just gotten onto the 180’s eastbound lanes from Abby Street when he made the decision to pull into the far left lane, according to investigators. When the motorist allegedly noticed the patrol car coming, he allegedly panicked and overcorrected by steering to the right.
Officers claim that Valdeolivar lost control of his vehicle at that point, crashing into the concrete center median after crashing into the cruiser and the Camry. The patrol cruiser allegedly came to rest in the middle median, according to them.
According to the CHP, the officers were taken to the hospital with mild to moderate wounds. In addition to Valdeolivar and his passenger, they both complained of pain and were brought to the hospital.
