Fresno County, CA – UC Davis student killed in a SUV rollover has been identified
FRESNO COUNTY, CA – The Fresno County Coroner’s Office reports that the woman who was killed in a collision in Fresno County on Thursday has been identified. Yi Yan, 22, was ejected from the vehicle and was declared dead by authorities there. She is from China, according to the coroner’s office, and was a visiting student at UC Davis.
According to the CHP, police were called to a collision on San Benito Avenue west of Panoche Road on Thursday at at 3:30 p.m. According to investigators, a 20-year-old Davis man went southbound on San Benito Avenue in a Mercedes GCL 300 while it was lightly raining. He lost control of his vehicle due to speed and the wet roads, veered to the right, and toppled into a dirt field.
The four further passengers, whose ages ranged from 20 to 25, allegedly sustained moderate to serious injuries. The California Highway Patrol doesn’t believe alcohol or narcotics were involved in the collision. It’s believed that Yan was not buckled up. The inquiry is still ongoing.
